Game turns 3 and 4 are mud turns.
All movement (except Soviet rail) is reduced to one hex in each movement phase.
All attack values are halved for both sides.

German Game Turn 3

West of Moscow
The half-strength panzer corps in Vyazma receives the German replacement point and is brought up to full strength. Despite the mud, the Germans attempt to dent the Mozhaisk Defense Line before the Soviets can build up a solid wall of full-strength armies. The only success is at Mozhaisk, where the Soviets are driven out and the Germans take the town. The other two attacks fizzle, with the Germans getting a bloody nose at Kaluga.

Southwest of Moscow

The three German panzer corps, unable to mount an effective attack on the Soviet army positioned behind the river line, instead try to inch around the open flank to the south. Note that the German infantry has fallen behind, unable to match the rate of advance of the panzers.

Soviet Game Turn 3

Having taken no losses this turn, Soviet strength increases. Since the Germans must advance, the mud conditions clearly favor the Soviets, hampering the German's movement and attack capability. The image shows the situation at the end of game turn 3, with the Soviets working to close that open flank south of Moscow.
