Battle for Moscow - Game Turn 2

German Game Turn 2 West of Moscow During the panzer movement phase, the Germans advance into Vyazma, vacated by the previous turn Soviet withdrawal. The yellow arrows again show German attacks. Three Soviet armies are destroyed, but the panzer corps in Vyazma suffers a one-step loss, and a 5-4 infantry corps is eliminated. Move the mouse pointer over the image. In the movement phase following combat, the Germans advance up to the Mozhaisk Defense Line.
Southwest of Moscow Two panzer corps advance through the porous Soviet position and attack the second line of defense, destroying a Soviet army. The Soviet army isolated in Bryansk is also destroyed in a follow-on attack by German infantry and the city is taken. Another battle two hexes north of Bryansk results in a Soviet retreat. Move the mouse pointer over the image. In the German movement phase, two more Soviet armies are isolated and the city of Orel is taken.
Soviet Game Turn 2 With five armies lost, and five replacements gained, the Soviets break even in the numbers game this turn. Three steps are used to build up half-strength armies in Moscow, Mozhaisk, and Kaluga, to full strength. Again, no attacks are carried out as the Soviets maintain a defensive posture. The image at right shows Soviet resistance stiffening along the Mozhaisk Defense Line at the end of game turn 2.
