The battle becomes a meat grinder as the Germans wade into masses of Soviet infantry in front of Moscow. The two attacks shown in the image result in exchanges. Both Soviet armies are destroyed, while one German 8-6 panzer, and the 8-4 infantry corps in Mozhaisk, each lose a step.

With only three turns remaining, the Germans bypass Tula to concentrate on a direct advance on Moscow. The battle northwest of Tula retreats the Soviet army, while the attack east of Tula fails.

The German panzer spearhead south of Moscow has penetrated perilously deep into Soviet lines. Waves of Soviet infantry now surround and attack two panzer corps. The German gamble pays off as the tankers hold off the Soviets, leaving panzers two hexes from Moscow both to the west and south.
