GAME TURN 4 - December 19, 1944

German Turn

In the north, three SS panzer divisions - the 1SS, 2SS, and 12SS - attack Spa, destroying half of the US 30th Inf Div and take the town. The Germans are now only four hexes from Liege to the northwest (not shown in image).

Things remain relatively quiet in the center, as the German tide flows around Houffalize to the north at Spa, and to the south at Bastogne. bba4g2cy.jpg (24352 bytes)
Bastogne is attacked by the 26th Vg Div, the Lehr Pz Div, and the 2nd Pz Div. The US 10th Arm Div is driven out and Bastogne falls to the Germans. bba4g3sy.jpg (22814 bytes)
On the southern flank, Echternach is occupied by the 276th Vg Div, while the 212th Vg Div and 150th Pz Bgd block the retreat of the US 4th Inf Div. bba4g4sy.jpg (23267 bytes)

Allied Turn

On the northern flank, nearly all Allied units withdraw behind the Vesdre river except for the US 78th Inf Div which now defends Rotgen. The remnant of the US 99th Inf Div hightails it to Aywaille. The US 1st Inf Div still holds Houffalize in the center. A counter attack is mounted outside Bastogne when the US 10th Arm Div, in conjunction with the US 82nd and 101st airborne divisions, hit the exposed 2nd Pz Div and hurl it back, holing half its panzers. The 101st advances back to Bastogne's doorstep. The US 4th Inf Div, in its effort to break out to the west, brushes aside the 150th Pz Bgd.
