GAME TURN 3 - December 18, 1944

German Turn

On the northern flank, the 272nd Vg Div walks into Monschau and the 277th Vg Div is outside Rotgen, defended by the US 102nd recon regiment. Four SS panzer divisions including the just arrived 2SS and 9SS, with the Peiper Pz Bgd, all advance in excess of their movement factor and so none can attack. The 1SS Pz Div and 12SS Pz Div are outside Spa. The 2SS Pz Div takes Stavelot and the Peiper Pz Bgd makes contact with the US 7th Arm Div on the road south of Eupen.

In the center, the 12th Vg Div occupies Malmedy and the 3rd Para Div takes St. Vith. Houffalize, defended by the US 1st Inf Div, is ignored for the time being. The three panzer divisions previously in this area have turned south.... bba3g2cy.jpg (40007 bytes)
....toward Bastogne. The 2nd Pz Div is not able to participate in combat, so the Lehr Pz Div delays its attack on the town, defended by the US 10th Arm Div. Other German units seen at the bottom right of the image move to break the standoff at Echternach at the end of the southern flank (not shown - three hexes beyond the bottom right of image). The Germans are on the verge of a breakthrough in this sector. bba3g3sy.jpg (39634 bytes)

Allied Turn

Three more US divisions arrive. The US 30th Inf Div joins the defenses at Spa, while two airborne divisions - the 82nd and 101st - are rushed to Bastogne but only get within two hexes. The US 4th Inf Div now withdraws from Echternach, with too many German divisions approaching the town.
