GAME TURN 6 - December 21, 1944

German Turn

The offensive pauses in the north as the Germans have a large lead in victory points and don't need to risk unnecessary casualties in marginal attacks.

The center suddenly lights up as the Germans concentrate four divisions - the 116th Pz Div, 5th Para Div, and the 18th and 62nd Vg Divs - in a heavy attack on Houffalize. The US 1st Inf Div is bodily and bloodily thrown out of town.
Mouse over the image. The German 5th Para Div takes the town. The 116th Pz Div remains positioned west of Houffalize to prevent the US 3rd Arm Div (at left edge of image) from participating in a direct attack on the town.
The 10SS Pz Div is sent south to reinforce the battle of Bastogne and arrives in time to join the Lehr Pz Div in driving the US 101st Abn Div back once again. bba6g3sy.jpg (24031 bytes)

Allied Turn

The Allies, now desperate for victory points, are forced into making risky attacks in difficult terrain. All fail miserably with heavy losses.

In the center, the US 1st Inf Div and US 9th Arm Div expel the German 5th Para Div from Houffalize and retake the town. bba6a2cy.jpg (23680 bytes)
The US 3rd Arm Div turns south, and along with the US 82nd Abn Div, attack the 10SS Pz Div, inflicting a loss on the panzers. Finally, the US 101st Abn Div and the US 10th Arm Div take a last stab at Bastogne. The attack is repulsed by the Lehr Pz Div, ending any chance of the Allies to salvage a draw in the game. bba6a3sy.jpg (23981 bytes)

The scenario ends and the Germans have 30 victory points, while the Allies have only 7 vp's.
The ratio exceeds the needed 3:1, resulting in a German victory.
